What do you think about our newspaper?
I'm always open to criticism or ideas about our paper's content, customer service, or website. If there is a better way of doing things, I know our readers can give advice. We can have a chat to discuss what you want and if it's possible to give it to you. Oneida is a small community and being open and honest is one of its benefits.
If you have any questions about how or why we do something, we can discuss that too.

1. I don't like getting yesterday's news, which is what is printed and delivered by (supposedly) 7 a.m. each day. And, my delivery history has been sketchy at best.
2. You need a good proofreader who understands correct grammar, word usage and spelling to vet the paper before it goes out.
3. While the paper is "small-town, you need to keep in mind that the content printed in it reflects on how our communities are viewed by outsiders. The day's big headline being "The Crow Committee is Leaderless" makes us look like a bunch of rubes with no truly important news to be published.
4. In the past the Dispatch was known as a beginners publication, using just-out-of-school writers. More "seasoned" reporters would professionalize it.
I appreciate your feedback. Are you a subscriber?
1)Some news I would agree in the paper is
'yesterdays' but other local news of Common Council or events are news that you probably haven't seen yet
2)We have hired a part-time editor to help with proof reading
3)The objective of the paper is to inform the people who live here of what is going on in their community. Being it is a "small town" means that there is not always big news coming from the area. I try not to use national or world stories on the front page because it is old and you can get that information a lot of other places. Here we preach: Local, Local, Local
4)The Dispatch is still known as a beginners publication. It allows us to keep the overhead down and also gives the beginner some experience they can't get other places.
Thanks for the advice, I will keep it
Would like to see more local business highlighted in the paper. It is a small town, but with alot going on.
We do business openings but there is much more we could do...thanks
The Oneida City School Board has been critical of the OD coverage of the district in the past. I suspect that there is plenty of criticism to go around.
Perhaps local districts can be offered an education/district column weekly on a rotating basis to tell us what is going on in their schools. Coverage should be limited to local concerns, news, and events.
My brother wrote for the Oneida Dispatch for a brief time- He is a RIT graduate and had the best written articles. He even took photos for his articles which were (in my opinion) in the same playing field as John Haeggar's (Sp?).
The editor never had to check his work- they knew it was always gramatically correct and without error. I suppose it was fear from the other so-called-writers that he was taking their jobs and doing a way better job. It could also have been that the paper couldn't afford an extra .50 to keep him on staff. I do enjoy a good laugh when the headline of the newspaper is incorrect- nothing like having the community paper be the laughing stock of the community. And yes- the Syracuse paper probably already had this blog comment yesterday.
